About WCPL Learning 2.0
What is Learning 2.0?
WCPL Learning 2.0 is an online program that encourages staff to learn more about emerging technologies on the web that are changing the way people, society and libraries access information and communicate with each other. This is a place for library staff to discover, play with, and share ideas about some of the many new technologies out in cyberspace.
Learning 2.0 is a self-discovery program in which staff take control of their own learning and utilize their lifelong learning skills through exploration and PLAY. There will be no classes or workshops offered to support this program (except for two Staff Day sessions). Instead, staff are encouraged to work together and share with each other their discoveries, techniques and "how to's" both in person and through comments on the Learning 2.0 Blog.
How It Will Work
Every Tuesday for nine weeks (January 22 - March 18) there will be new messages on the WCPL Learning 2.0 Blog about some aspect of Web 2.0 to explore. One week will be devoted to playing with new “toys,” and the final week will be a chance to reflect on what we’ve been learning and how the future may look, feel and be on the web.
Prizes?
We hope to be able to have a drawing for prizes at the end of the program for all WCPL staff who complete it. The last week of the program will run March 18 - 24 but you have until April 7 to finish. We are still working on securing prizes.
Beginning with Week 2, each week will have an activity that you must complete in order to prove your participation, usually adding comments to the blog. So that we can keep track of who is participating, you will need to identify yourself in the comments you leave on the blog posts (Don't know what a blog is? Don't worry - you will soon!). You can use your full name (Sandy Smith @ WRL) or just enough of your name to uniquely identify yourself (Sandy S. @ WRL). If you have any questions contact us at wcpl20@gmail.com.
Credits
Our Learning 2.0 program is based on the Learning 2.0 program originally designed by Helene Blowers, Technology Director for the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County (PLCMC). The program was loosely based on 43 Things I (or You) might want to do this year (Information Outlook - Feb 2006) and the website 43Things. Thanks to Helene for allowing the use of her program.
